1Q9. Why does my orthodontic treatment require final placement of white fillings or veneers?

Why do my orthodontic treatment require final placement of white filling or veneer?

By natural design, when a patient bites down, the upper and lower teeth should mesh perfectly, like a jigsaw puzzle or two gears in a machine.

Occasionally, however, patient has teeth smaller than normal size. (The most common abnormally sized teeth are the upper lateral incisors.) In this case, in order for the upper and lower teeth to properly mesh together, a space or spaces must be left to the left or the right side of the small teeth.

After the orthodontic treatment has been completed, these spaces will need to be filled by restoring the small teeth to normal size by either white filling material or by porcelain veneer.
